What they really depict?

 That somebody either likes you enough to send points to be on your wall in hopes to catch your attention. Or they want to view your profile and that's the way they can do so. Or they are competing against somebody in a testosterone war (it happens). Or they think you're awesome and want to spend points to put you on a pedestal of sorts (upping you in the fan point ratings) because they can and think you deserve it.

Some equate it to school-kid antics and popularity contests. A means to cause hurt feelings etc. Some refuse to play. Some played with absolutely no expectations at all then get surprised.

It doesn't really depict anything. Some might also bid because they like your blog, or your profile, and you seem half decent and "hey, I haven't used my points for anything... why not?" ... you pretty much almost have to ask the person why to know what, exactly, it depicts.
